Born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in Metro Detroit, Michigan. Apil T is a self-proclaimed Queen of poetry that only shares the truth and rarely ever sugar coats things. Discovering her love for poetry at a tender age of 12, Apil T has been writing as what she calls “a method of therapy”, and as a way of sharing a piece of herself with the world. In her Junior year of high school, Apil T began to perform her poetry at Open Mics held at her high school as a member of the poetry club Spoken Word on a monthly basis and also for several English and Poetry classes until she graduated. During this time, she was mostly known for her poems “Thoughts of a Newly Elected Homecoming Queen”, “There is a Difference”, “Dear Music”, and “I Confess”. Apil T continued on to join The Poetry Society at Eastern Michigan University and began to expand on her topics and styles of writing. Performing at a variety of open mics in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area and also performing and competing in several events including The Hip Hop Explosion, where she won Second Place her Freshman year. Apil T also performed as a member of The Poetry Society for 3 consecutive years in the annual show Do What You Do and for 4 consecutive years in the annual show The Color of Drums held during the Dr. Martin Luther King weekend celebration at Eastern Michigan University. Today, Apil T is striving to reach even more people with her poetry and express her self growth through her writing.
